How it works

Saccharomycin DF by Xymogen is manufactured using a process that involves controlled temperature and low vacuum, eliminating the shock of freeze-drying. The drying procedure, which does not modify the water content of the preparation, slows down aging, cell deterioration, and contamination, leading to increased stability and greater resistance to gastric acids. The process does not require lactose, making it perfect for those who are dairy/lactose intolerant.Saccharomyces boulardii is a natural, non-pathogenic yeast that has been shown to maintain and restore the normal ecology of the small and large intestines. In a 2010 systematic review and meta-analysis of 31 randomized, placebo-controlled treatment arms in 27 trials (encompassing 5029 adult study patients), S. boulardii was found to be significantly efficacious and safe in 84% of those treatment arms.  It has been used safely in infants and children as well. 

Extensively researched and published in European and American peerreviewed journals, Saccharomyces boulardii has demonstrated several mechanisms of action. 

These include 1) secretion of a protease that degrades bacterial toxins, inhibiting them from binding to the intestinal brush border, 2) binding of E.coli, Salmonella ssp, and other bacteria, preventing these bacteria from adhering to the intestinal epithelium and, possibly, expelling these pathogens from the body via the stool,  3) interference with enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli-induced signaling pathways in T84 cell transduction signals, 4) modulation of the release of polyamines that restore intestinal mucosal health, possibly by stimulating the maturation and turnover of enterocytes and increasing production of disaccharidases such as glucoamylase, lactase, maltase, and sucrase, 5) stimulation of immune cells of the intestinal mucosa, inducing secretion of sIgA, 6) reduction in the secretion of pro-inflammatory IL-8 by inhibiting production of NFKappaB and MAPK signaling pathway (also inhibits IL-6 and TNF-alpha while increasing secretion of anti-inflammatory IL-10), 7) hindrance (in vitro) of the ability of Candida albicans to form filaments and to adhere and form biofi lms,  and 8) support for an increase in fecal short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate.

Dosage and Directions

Take one capsule twice daily or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
